Natural Remedies For Inflammation
You’ve probably taken anti-inflammatory medicines such as aspirin, ibuprofen and naproxen. Did you know that — especially when taken in large doses — they can have side effects including gastrointestinal (GI) and kidney problems?
Unfortunately, our need for anti-inflammatories is increasing.
One reason for this is our diet. The modern Western diet is high in processed foods that contain large amounts of Omega 6 fatty acids. Although these are essential fatty acids that your body requires, too much Omega 6 causes – inflammation!
And chronic inflammation has become a major health problem.
Inflammation is thought to be a cause of such horrible killers as heart disease, cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s.
In addition to these, chronic inflammation also plays a role in asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, lupus, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, Barrett’s esophagus, macular degeneration, and even obesity.
In fact, some experts believe that chronic inflammation is the cause of all chronic diseases.
But here’s the good news. There are natural remedies for inflammation! That’s right, there are natural remedies that have no side effects yet pack a potent anti-inflammatory punch.
Let’s talk about some of them.
Omega 3 fatty acids, unlike their cousins, Omega 6 fatty acids, do not cause inflammation. In fact, they are a potent, natural anti-inflammatory!
Therefore, using natural remedies for inflammation requires you to properly balance your intake of Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. Too much Omega 6 promotes inflammation, while Omega 3 reduces inflammation.
The typical Western diet has about 20 times more Omega 6 than Omega 3, and this is a recipe for disaster.
Ideally, you would get equal amounts of these two essential fatty acids; but, at least, you should shoot for a ratio of 4 parts Omega 6 to every 1 part of Omega 3 in your diet.
Omega 3s are found in some foods such as flaxseed. However, the best source of Omega 3s is fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, herring, mackerel and hoki.
For the anti-inflammatory effects of Omega 3, you can either eat fish regularly (at least twice a week) or you can take a high quality, pure fish oil supplement. Usually, one or two capsules a day of a good fish oil supplement is all you need.
In addition to these Omega 3 based natural remedies for inflammation, there are others.
Other anti-inflammatory foods are green tea and the herbs rosemary and cat’s claw.
It is also important to eat foods as close to their raw state as possible.
So there you have it, a recipe for using natural remedies for inflammation. Use that recipe to eliminate or reduce the symptoms of any inflammatory diseases that you have.
